Listen to Anthony Fisher describe our Company History

Company History

After spending one year at medical school, founder Anthony Fisher, now a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, joined a large chemical cleaning group.  He was employed as a chemist to oversee the manufacturing of professional business to business cleaning chemicals.  Anthony completed his studies via day release at the Enfield Technical College from ONC to HNC to LRIC and remained at the company for many years, eventually becoming the Managing Director.
After a time importing specialist cleaning chemicals from the USA, distributing them from their stock in Enfield to customers in the aviation industry, the company began manufacturing some of the products themselves.  Anthony became their qualified chemist for Quality Control and technical service.  He then took his knowledge and skills out into the field, offering technical service; giving advice; learning customers’ problems and devising product solutions
Travelling the world for sales trips, Anthony was open to learning and mind-opening experiences.  He discovered sophisticated raw materials, new formulation techniques together with imaginative approaches to customer service.
In 1984 Anthony was headhunted to set up a laboratory and manufacturing industry where he learned to create series of formulations, physically mix the products, set up technical service and to write data sheets.
Having worked closely with the American aviation industry who pioneered the use of safety data sheets, he was already trained and experienced and therefore at the forefront when it became law in the UK, inspiring customer trust and confidence.
Anthony left in 1988 to set up his own company which became Fisher Research Ltd in 1995.
Fisher Research began by manufacturing and selling white labelled products for other companies together with its own brands.  Realising that this was a business conflict, Chela Ltd was created to sell the Chela brand to the user and Fisher Research continued to focus on private/white labelled goods.
The two companies still operate in this parallel way today.
Fisher Research Ltd is today based on business-to-business trust.  Companies trust the company to formulate, make and even label their products with complete discretion; the business prides itself of being confident, dependable and financially stable.   The company owns two factories, has investment and always pays its own bills on time.
The Fisher product range now includes unexpectedly successful solutions:  products for cleaning and sealing, graffiti removal, pet shampoo, nail polish removers, foot callous remover, astroturf cleaner for fox urine and wet suit cleaner for a similar more human purpose.
Chela Ltd foresaw that the rail industry (over and underground) would follow the aviation industry in investment and development to the point where a carriage cost more than £1 million and so require more technically competent products and good aftersales service .  Chela researched and developed sophisticated and effective products supported by a high degree of technical service and support, replacing the previous system whereby non-specific chemicals were bought in bulk by tender.  This is now expanding into the bus and tram industries.
An example of one of the success stories from this time is Guardisan – Anthony’s dedication involved impressive demonstrations late at night cleaning urinals at a London Terminus. The experiment was successful and trials carried out with this product reduced labour costs by 30%.  Guardisan is still in production today.
Another major success has been the development of a catalytic solvent for dissolving fully cured silicone rubbers and elastomers which is still thriving today.
The present and future hold surprises and changes –to Chela it is important that the product does the job but also that the Chela brand inspires loyalty.  An example of this is sometimes making a very small quantity of something a customer needs as such flexibility earns customer loyalty and trust.
Fisher Research and Chela provide products specifically to meet the needs of problems brought by customers.
